What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder in which our body’s ability to produce or respond to a hormone named insulin is impaired leading to high level of glucose in blood. A healthy body releases right amount of insulin and glucose, but those suffering from diabetes have a higher level of glucose or sugar in their blood. High level of glucose can lead to various harmful diseases. The worst aspect of this disease is that it cannot be cured completely; however, yes, it can be managed by adopting appropriate steps.

Different Types of Diabetes:

The most common types are - Type 1 Diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes, and Gestational Diabetes.
  • Type 1 Diabetes:

    In people with Type-1 diabetes, insulin is not released in the body. This is mainly found in children and young people. Hence, it becomes important to take insulin injections daily.
  • Type 2 Diabetes:

    In Type 2 diabetes which is the most common type, insulin is produced; however, the insulin is either not sufficiently produced or our body is not able to recognize it or use it adequately. This condition can occur at any point of age and individuals are required to take proper care and medication in order to resolve this problem.
  • Gestational Diabetes:

    This type develops only in women during pregnancy. Mainly, those with family history of diabetes are at an increased risk. If left untreated, it ultimately results in the development of Type 2 diabetes in women.
