What is Polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD)?

PCOD is a health condition in which women develop enlarged ovaries and small follicular cysts (diameter 0.5-1.0 cm). This results in the collection of eggs inside the ovary that cannot be released from the body. PCOD is also referred to as PCOS (Polycystic ovarian syndrome).

Women with PCOD will have an imbalance in the reproductive system and hormones. The ovaries are susceptible to produce excess quantities of androgen that affects the development and release of eggs during ovulation.
